Yes, I know, it’s been a while since you’ve all heard from me, but let me tell you, it has been one busy year!  Last May, I took on the role of CO-PRESIDENT within my university’s chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB), and what a year it’s been!  EWB is a national organization, committed to eradicating poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa, and growing leaders within our communities.  This year through EWB, I was able to network with students and professionals from across the country and overseas, sharing goals, insights, challenges, and many stories.  I am constantly inspired by the EWBers I meet, especially those within the MUN chapter!  The other half of my co-presidency was a returning Junior Fellow who spent the summer of 2015 volunteering with an EWB venture, Rent to Own, which is a micro-financing company in Zambia.  Rent to Own works by renting equipment and assets to small scale business owners through rental instalments, which gives them the tools they need to grow their businesses.  Another of my friends within the chapter championed bringing an EWB Kumvana Fellow from Ghana to Newfoundland for a week during her Canadian placement (and she absolutely succeeded).  The chapter has now taken the lead on planning a leadership conference with other clubs and societies at Memorial, which will take place at the end of June.  My time as President has exposed me to the many strengths of the people around me, and has given me the opportunity to develop my leadership skills even more.  I’m excited to be able to apply all that I’ve learned in leadership roles as I move forward!
