You never really know what’s going to happen next.

Well, the first two months of my university career have certainly flown by and they have been nothing short of incredible! Sure, there have been a few bumps along the way, but that’s what makes this experience so exciting. You never really know what’s going to happen next.

My first week here was probably the toughest. I didn’t know anyone and it was a totally new experience in learning how to live on my own in a larger centre. It wasn’t until the middle of my second week that I actually had a firm schedule, but I guess that’s a small price to pay for all of the wonderful things that come with studying here. My classes range in size from sixteen students to about forty-five. The professors are genuinely helpful and many of them even take the time to remember your name! It is certainly extraordinary to be given the opportunity to study here in a small-scale setting! One thing I’ve realized here is that you aren’t given anything for free. More often than not, you need to work harder than even the instructor expects you to in order to succeed. Nevertheless, I have been doing well in all of my courses, in some cases even better than I did in high school.

My experiences outside of academics have also been very exciting. Like most, I came here, not knowing anyone, but in a short time I have already met some amazing friends. They have certainly helped make these past couple of months extremely enjoyable; there is never a dull moment. Right now, I can’t imagine my life in university without them!

I’m looking forward to the last month of this semester and I am sure that the next semester will be equally as good if not better now that I know that I can stay here in Corner Brook before moving on to St. John’s next year to complete my desired program, a Joint Honours in Geophysics and Physical Oceanography. Anyway, life as a Schulich Leader could not be better right now! Those who say that high school years are the best days of your life never went to Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus! This much I’m sure of!
