The new school year has been…
The new school year has been much more fast pace than last year, however I am enjoying the classes more and I am keeping up with the work load quite well. My classes include very interesting labs in which we get the chance to design, build, and analyze various electric circuits. To supplement my studies, I have joined the U of S Robotics Club, where I learn how to design a small robot from start to finish including learning how to program a micro processor, design and use sensors, and how to manufacture our own parts. What I learn and do in this club goes far beyond what I will learn in the classroom.
In addition to school work, I still keep active by taking part in co-rec basketball and ultimate frisbee once a week. I also make sure to workout at the campus gym 5-6 days a week, which makes for a good study break. To keep my sanity during the semester, I make time for hanging out with friends one the weekends when I’m not too busy with exams. Also, I take part in volunteer opportunities around the university and city whenever I can find the time and an opportunity is available.
This weekend three friends and I are taking part in the Saskatoon Engineering Competition, in which we will be given a design challenge with certain restraints and a time frame to complete this challenge. Following the completion of the design, we will have to prepare a formal presentation for the judges to evaluate us. The winner of the competition receives a cash prize and a chance to represent the university at the Western Engineering Competition (WEC) in January.
All in all, I am having a successful semester and I am very much enjoying electrical engineering thus far.
