The Good Times Just Keep on Rollin'!

My second term at the University of Waterloo was just as exciting as the first. I enjoyed taking courses in Linear Algebra, Calculus, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. All of these subjects were so interesting and I am incredibly glad that I had the opportunity to learn about them. Almost all of these courses were continuations of courses that I took first term. It was very rewarding to use the skills that I acquired at the beginning of the year to dive even deeper into the beautiful world of math and science. If I could do it again, I wouldn’t change a thing!

This term I started volunteer tutoring with the Canadian-Somalian Association of Kitchener/Waterloo. This was a very enjoyable experience. I had the privilege of working with students from Grade 1 to Grade 12 for four hours every week in the areas of math and science. It seems like high school was only yesterday for me, so it was nice to revisit the high school curriculum. This organization was very pleased and thankful to have a tutor in the STEM field, and I greatly look forward to returning next year.

Outside of class, I also enjoyed playing intramural volleyball, basketball, and handball. I tried my best to keep up with daily visits to the gym, but I couldn’t help but miss a few workouts here and there, especially during the middle of the term!

This summer I am playing on the U22 Beach Volleyball Provincial Team in Toronto. This program started on May 2nd and goes all the way to the end of August when the Canadian Beach Volleyball Championships take place. It involves practice 5 times a week, strength and conditioning 3 times a week, and tournaments almost every weekend. Recently, I got the very great news that I will have the honour of representing Canada at the U21 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Larnaca, Cyprus from July 23rd to July 27th. This was the result of a trial tournament held in Toronto in January 2014.

I hope that everyone at the Schulich Foundation is having a great summer. I would also like to say thank you to the Schulich Foundation for the incredible support. It is greatly appreciated!
