Why do you think you make a great Schulich Leader?

What makes me a great Schulich Leader is all the things I have learned and experienced throughout my journey and made me who I am today. I have learned an immense amount from my leadership experiences that has no doubt exceeded what I will ever learn in a classroom. What is important is that you can’t lead anyone if you can’t lead yourself first. Authenticity is more important than anything when it comes to leadership. The more you worry about who you are, and about being somebody who pleases everyone, the less you are able to effectively do what is needed. Although one faces many barriers don’t let your fears and self-doubt get in the way of doing amazing work. A great leader needs to be adaptable. The biggest mistake one can make is to be unwilling to change course, or start over when something is not going their way. That willingness to forge past mistakes and turn learnings into progress is what leads to eventual success. I have learned that a great leader is someone who recognizes that a team member’s responsibilities are not determined by their job description but by their passion. Learn from your mistakes and don’t be afraid of failure because each experience teaches you the important lessons to succeed in life. I’ve learned to accept both failure and success, and view each obstacle as a stepping stone to the latter. I’m not disappointed by what I couldn’t accomplish; I move on to the next thing i’m passionate about and make the most out of it.
