I have learned a lot

With two completed terms at Waterloo under my belt, I have learned a lot about living away from home and about myself. This winter term, I got more involved with university life through several positions, which along with a heavy course load kept me very busy! I got to be a part of the engineering newspaper, The Iron Warrior, as Copy Editor as well as Circulation Manager and I also had the opportunity to voice my opinions as a member of the UW Residence Marketing Advisory Board. In addition to these roles, I took on more responsibilities at Midnight Sun, by becoming the Events Coordinator. With the Midnight Sun Solar Race Car team, I attended the Solar Canada 2012 Conference, where we networked with industry professionals and answered questions from curious passerby about our solar car. As Events Coordinator, I have organized future events, such as ECOFest for my team to attend in the upcoming spring term, which is pretty exciting!

In January, I attended the DECA Provincial Conference in Toronto. It was a really great experience to meet other university delegates at DECA Provincials. As part of UW DECA’s Quiz Bowl team, I am proud to say that for the third year in a row, Waterloo took home first place! In the fast-paced competition, we faced Laurier in the finals and it was a close finish.

After two terms away from home, I am excited to be back in BC and to start my co-op position as a Food Technologist at one of Maple Leaf Foods’ subsidiaries, Olivieri. I look forward to learning a lot of new skills and gaining valuable work experience with Olivieri!
