As the holidays quickly approach…
As the holidays quickly approach, students around campus are exhibiting the usual signs of “final exam time”: disheveled hair, bags under the eyes, oversized sweaters and of course…. running frantically to the nearest Tim Horton. Although exam time is stressful, I don’t find it nearly as intimidating as I did as a freshman. Now that I’m in my second year of University, I have become a lot more welcoming to new challenges because every day I’m pushed a little bit more outside of my comfort zone. Being in courses such as Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics of Plants and Human Physiology have allowed me to identify my strengths and weaknesses in different areas. I love my Genetic Honors Program because every challenge I encounter brings me one step closer to becoming a more resilient individual. I utilize difficult and stressful situations as a way of improving my weaknesses; analogous to &ldq uo;sharpening my tools”. It astonishes me how much I can accomplish when I believe in myself and wash away any trace of doubt in my mind. Also, despite my full course load, I find the energy to push myself a little further everyday because I know that I have an amazing support system in the Schulich Foundation that believe in my potential.
Moreover, this semester I was part of the “Evening of Excellence” hosted annually at the University of Manitoba. This evening is organized for students in high school so that they can find out more information about the scholarships and programs offered. It was such a great experience for me to talk to students and parents, and share my insight on University. I look forward to being a part of this wonderful event next year as well.
Overall, my fall semester has been a great experience and I have met numerous people, whom I now call friends. Right now, I feel the most excited about my future because I am so close to my dream of attending Medical School. It’s hard to believe that next year will be my last year of University, yet I plan on making every moment count!
